Design Shanghai is one of the world’s most prestigious international design events and Asia’s premier design event. Gaia Vesterålen is exhibited in the Norwegian pavilion, as one of 6 projects chosen to display architectural approach.
Far up in the northern parts of Norway, we have looked to the local fishing industry, using its discarded containers to develop a project of a fully circular landmark building.
The ambition is to build a museum in Sortland seafront with a recycling level of 95 percent, the highest ever realized in a major construction process.
The project has received EU-funding through Circ-Boost and Horizon Europe to research the reuse of concrete and is developed as a collaboration between Lundhagem architects, the local community, Gaia Vesterålen, Museum Nord, the Artic university of Norway and Reno Vest recycling plant.
